Private jet Nice to New York: the Riviera's long way home
A private jet Nice to New York flight is how many Riviera summers end: a morning departure from the Côte d'Azur and an arrival in New Jersey in time for a late lunch in Manhattan. Our figures put the great-circle distance at 3,463 nautical miles. A heavy jet flies it nonstop in about 8 hours 15 minutes, and an ultra-long-range jet in about 8 hours. Smaller jets can make the trip too, but not without stopping, and the westbound direction is the harder one, because the prevailing winds over the North Atlantic blow against you.
The data sections above this guide show the numbers for the corridor: flight times by aircraft category, the airports at each end, the right-sized aircraft and estimate ranges. This guide explains how to read them for a westbound ocean crossing, and covers the parts no table can: customs at Teterboro, travel documents, where to start on the Riviera and how to arrive in New York rested.
We are a charter broker. We do not own or operate aircraft. We source your flight from licensed operators, compare what is available for your date, and stay with the trip from the villa to your New York address. You can learn more about how we work on the JetPriceCheck homepage.
Who flies from Nice to New York, and when
The corridor has a clear seasonal pattern. Americans and New York-based Europeans spend part of the summer on the Riviera, in Monaco, Cap Ferrat, Cannes or Saint-Tropez, and many fly home together at the end of the season, often with more luggage than they arrived with. Business travellers make the trip year-round: Monaco is home to family offices, shipping and finance, and meetings in Manhattan are rarely more than a day's flight away.
What these travellers share is a preference for one journey instead of two. There is no shortage of scheduled flights, but from much of the Riviera the airline route means a road transfer, a connection through a larger European hub and a long arrival process in New York. A private charter from Nice to Teterboro removes the connection, lets the family and the luggage travel together and brings you into an airport a short drive from Midtown.
Choosing the aircraft: where the nonstop line falls westbound
Heavy jets: the right-sized nonstop
Our data lists the Heavy Jet as the smallest category that flies this route nonstop, at about 8 hours 15 minutes, and that is where most groups should start. Right-sized examples include the Gulfstream G450 and the Gulfstream G550, both designed for transatlantic flights with a comfortable cabin, a galley and space to rest. For ten to fourteen passengers, or a smaller group that wants room to sleep, a heavy jet is the natural fit.
Ultra-long-range jets: margin and cabin
The ultra-long-range category, including the Dassault Falcon 8X and the Bombardier Global 6500, is quicker on our model at about 8 hours and brings extra range margin. On a westbound crossing into strong headwinds, that margin matters: it lowers the chance of an unplanned stop and gives the crew more room around weather. The cabins are larger again, with more space to separate a working area from a rest area.
Super midsize, midsize and light jets: plan a stop
Our table marks the super midsize category as marginal on this route. In practice that means a nonstop flight may be possible on a light load with favourable winds, but the operator is likely to plan a fuel stop, especially westbound. Midsize and light jets need at least one stop on our model, and light jets usually more than one, which stretches the day well beyond the 9 hours 10 minutes of flying time our model shows. They are rarely the right choice for a transatlantic trip unless the group is very small and the budget is tight. Our aircraft guide explains the categories.
Making a stop count: Shannon preclearance
If your aircraft does need a stop, the choice of where can save time at the other end. Shannon Airport in Ireland offers US preclearance for business jets, open to charter flights since 2011, according to the Shannon Airport Group. Passengers clear US immigration, customs and agriculture inspection in Ireland, and the aircraft then lands in the United States as a domestic flight. The appointment must be requested at least 24 hours before arrival at Shannon. For a super midsize jet that needs fuel anyway, a Shannon stop can turn a technical necessity into a smoother arrival in New York.
Starting on the Riviera: Nice Côte d'Azur and beyond
Departing from Nice
Nice Côte d'Azur is the departure airport for this corridor, and most business aviation passengers use the dedicated Business Aviation Terminal next to Terminal 2, opened in 2010 and covering about 1,500 m², according to the airport's business aviation page and its Wikipedia entry. The airport applies noise rules to business aircraft, including limits on the time windows for noisier types, a cap on auxiliary power unit use and engine shutdown with towing to the parking stand, according to COHOR, the French slot coordinator. Your operator plans around these rules; for you, the main effect is that departure times outside normal hours need to be checked in advance. Our Nice Côte d'Azur airport page gathers the essentials.
France is in the Schengen Area, so on a flight to the United States you pass Schengen exit passport control at the business aviation terminal before boarding.
From Monaco, Cannes or Saint-Tropez
Many searches for a private jet Monaco to New York trip really describe this route. Monaco has no airport of its own, and a helicopter from the Monaco Heliport to Nice takes about seven minutes, according to Visit Monaco. From Cannes or Saint-Tropez the transfer is longer, by road or helicopter depending on the day. Long-range jets need a long runway, so the transatlantic sector almost always starts at Nice itself, and we time the helicopter or car so the connection is seamless. Helicopter transfers are weather dependent and have their own baggage limits, which matters at the end of a long summer.
Private jet Nice to New York price: reading the estimates
The price table above shows estimate ranges from our demonstration pricing model, in US dollars. They are not quotes and not offers. A firm price comes only from a licensed operator for a specific aircraft and date.
On our model, a one-way private jet Nice to New York trip is estimated at:
- Heavy jet (nonstop): about USD 105,000–158,000
- Ultra-long-range jet (nonstop): about USD 141,000–218,000
- Super midsize jet (marginal, stop likely): about USD 87,000–126,000
Returns are estimated well below twice the one-way figure: about USD 132,000–198,000 for a heavy jet. The reason is positioning. On a one-way booking you usually pay for the aircraft to return to base; a return uses that sector. On this corridor, though, most clients do not need the jet back on the Riviera soon, so the return estimate is mainly useful for business trips with a short stay in New York. Our private jet cost guide explains how the ranges are built.
What moves the number on this route
- Aircraft category, the largest single factor on an eight-hour flight.
- Where the aircraft is based. At the end of the summer, many long-range jets are already in the south of France and need to go west, which can help. At other times the aircraft may need to fly to Nice first.
- Stops. A fuel or preclearance stop adds landing and handling fees and time.
- Season. The end of the Riviera summer concentrates westbound demand into a few weeks.
- Airport fees and handling at Nice and in New York, which depend on aircraft size.

Arriving in New York: Teterboro, Westchester or JFK
Teterboro for Manhattan
Teterboro, run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, is about 12 miles from Midtown and is the usual arrival airport for private jets from Europe. It has a weight limit of 100,000 pounds, which some of the largest long-range jets exceed, so the operator confirms the aircraft is eligible. CBP's fact sheet for Teterboro sets out how international arrivals are processed; customs officers are generally on duty from early morning to late evening, with off-hours service on request. Our Teterboro airport guide covers access and ground transfers.
Westchester County and JFK
If you are heading to the northern suburbs or Connecticut, Westchester County Airport can be closer. JFK is an option for larger aircraft, or when you are connecting onward. Customs arrangements differ between airports and change over time, so the operator confirms the arrival airport and its processing hours for your flight.
Documents: ESTA, visas and passenger data
Every passenger needs a valid document for the United States. Many European travellers enter on an ESTA under the Visa Waiver Program, but on a private charter this works only if the operator is a signatory to the programme. CBP publishes the list of signatory carriers, and we check it before we put an aircraft forward. If the operator is not a signatory, passengers need a visa.
The operator transmits passenger data through APIS before departure, so we need full names, dates of birth and passport details in advance. Pets can travel at the operator's discretion, subject to US entry rules; tell us early.
Timing: six hours behind, and arriving rested
New York is normally six hours behind Nice. A departure from Nice at around 10 a.m. with about eight hours in the air lands you in New Jersey in the early afternoon local time, which leaves the rest of the day for home and an evening at the normal hour. That is the gentle direction for jet lag. We plan the departure around the Nice noise rules, the customs hours at the arrival airport and the crew's duty time, so a slow start on the Riviera does not turn into a late arrival.
Empty legs between Nice and New York
Transatlantic empty legs appear when an aircraft has flown a client one way and needs to return to base. At the end of the Riviera season, a steady flow of jets heads west, and some operators offer those sectors at a lower price. The trade-off is flexibility: the date, time and aircraft are fixed by the original booking, and the flight can move or be cancelled if that booking changes. Our empty-leg flights page explains how they work and what to check.
