Gulfstream G450 charter: the long-range workhorse

A Gulfstream G450 charter is often the most practical way to cross the Atlantic nonstop from anywhere in Western Europe without paying for a newest-generation flagship. The G450 is a long-range heavy jet with a published range of about 4,350 nautical miles, a long cabin lit by Gulfstream's large oval windows, and a reputation built over two decades of service with corporate flight departments and charter operators. On our screening estimates it flies Geneva to New York and Nice to New York nonstop, which the other heavy jets in its peer group do not.

The facts strip and tables above come from our dataset: published manufacturer or public figures, not independently verified. This guide explains what they mean in practice, how the G450 compares with its peers, and what to check before you commit to a particular aircraft. We are a charter broker: we do not own or operate aircraft, and every G450 we source is flown by a licensed operator. You can read how we work on the JetPriceCheck homepage.

The G450 in Gulfstream's family tree

Gulfstream Aerospace, part of General Dynamics, has built a line of large-cabin jets that share a common family look. According to the Gulfstream IV entry on Wikipedia and the Gulfstream Aerospace article, the G450 was developed from the Gulfstream IV-SP, announced in the early 2000s and delivered from the middle of that decade. It brought the PlaneView flight deck, a longer range and cabin improvements, and it was built alongside the larger, longer-range G550.

Production ended in the second half of the 2010s, when the clean-sheet G500 and G600 took over its place in the range. Our dataset lists it as out of production. That has two implications for a charter customer.

First, the G450 is a proven aircraft. Its Rolls-Royce Tay engines, systems and maintenance programmes are well understood, and many crews have long experience on the type.

Second, every G450 on the market is at least several years old, and some are much older. Interiors range from original fit-outs to recent refurbishments with new seats, soft furnishings and connectivity. The spread between the best and the most tired G450 can be wide, so we always present the year of manufacture, the last refurbishment date and recent photos of the actual aircraft.

The G450 cabin

Windows and light

Gulfstream's large oval windows are the first thing most passengers notice. There are more of them, and they are larger, than on many jets of similar size, and they make the cabin feel brighter and less enclosed on a long day flight. It is a small detail that matters on an eight-hour crossing.

Layout and seats

Our dataset lists up to 19 passengers, and typical layouts seat 12 to 14. The cabin is usually arranged in zones: a forward club of four seats, a conference or dining group in the middle, and a divan towards the rear, with a galley at the front and the lavatory at the back. Some aircraft have a crew rest area. Our dataset has no published cabin dimensions for it, so we describe it qualitatively: it is a stand-up cabin for most adults, with a long floor and a generous aisle.

Sleeping on a night crossing

Several seats in the club and conference groups combine into flat berths, and the divan makes up into a bed. On an overnight flight from New York to London, several passengers can sleep well; ask how many berths the specific aircraft has. For a full cabin of 13 or 14, not everyone will have a bed.

Baggage

The G450's baggage compartment is accessible in flight and is generous for a normal group. Our dataset has no published figure, so if you travel with skis, golf bags or large cases, share the list and the operator will confirm what fits. The Embraer Legacy 650E has a larger hold if luggage is the deciding factor.

Gulfstream G450 range and the routes it screens nonstop

The published range of about 4,350 nautical miles is a best-case figure with a light load and standard reserves. The screening table above applies a practical margin for passengers, baggage, winds and alternates. Our private jet range guide explains that gap in detail.

On our screening estimates, a Gulfstream G450 charter covers 97 of the 104 corridors in our network nonstop, the most of the three heavy peers in our data.

The transatlantic list

It screens nonstop on London to New York, London to Washington, D.C., London to Boston, Paris to New York, Madrid to New York, Geneva to New York and Nice to New York. Geneva and Nice are the two that set it apart: for a banker in Geneva or a family on the Riviera heading to Manhattan, one nonstop sector instead of a fuel stop is often the whole reason to choose a G450.

Gulf and Asia

It covers London to Dubai, Paris to Dubai, Madrid to Dubai, Riyadh to London, Dubai to Singapore and Tokyo to Singapore on our estimates, along with every intra-European, intra-Gulf and North American corridor we list.

Where it still needs a stop

London to Los Angeles, London to Miami, London or Geneva to Aspen, New York to Dubai, New York to São Paulo and Hong Kong to Sydney do not screen nonstop on our data. Those missions call for an ultra-long-range jet, or a planned fuel stop. Winter westbound headwinds can also make the operator plan a stop on the longer European to New York sectors when the cabin and hold are full.

Gulfstream G450 charter cost: reading the estimates

The cost section above shows our model's hourly band for heavy jets and sample trip estimates. They are estimates built from published market rates, not quotes and not offers. A firm price for a G450 comes from an operator for a specific aircraft, date and itinerary.

The G450's appeal on price is that it offers nonstop transatlantic range from almost anywhere in Western Europe at heavy-jet rates rather than ultra-long-range rates. On a four-hour trip, though, its range is unused, and a smaller heavy jet or a super midsize will often cost less for the same comfort.

What moves the price:

  • Positioning. Where the nearest available G450 is based, and whether it must return empty after a one-way trip. Transatlantic one-ways can carry a large positioning element.
  • Airframe year and refurbishment. A recently refurbished G450 with modern connectivity may be priced higher than an aircraft with an original interior.
  • Crew and waiting days. Long stays add crew accommodation and parking; long sectors can require an augmented crew.
  • Routing and load. A full cabin and hold on a marginal sector may need a fuel stop, adding time and fees.
  • Season. European summer, year-end holidays and major event weeks tighten availability.

Our private jet cost guide explains how our estimates are built. When you want a real figure, request a quote through JetPriceCheck with your dates, passengers and luggage.

Empty legs on long sectors

Long-range jets reposition across the Atlantic and between Europe and the Gulf, and those sectors sometimes appear as empty legs. They are fixed in time and date and can be cancelled if the original booking changes, so they suit flexible travellers. See our empty-leg flights page for how they work.

G450 vs Challenger 650 vs Legacy 650E

These three are the heavy jets that come up most often for the same missions in our dataset. The comparison below uses published figures and our screening estimates.

If range is the deciding factor, the G450 is the one to shortlist. If you are a smaller group and want the widest seats, the Bombardier Challenger 650 is worth comparing. If luggage decides it, look at the Legacy 650E. See the whole class on our heavy jets page or browse every category on the aircraft index.

G450 or G550?

The G550 is the G450's longer-range sibling. It shares much of the family look but carries more fuel for ultra-long sectors. If your trip is New York to Dubai or London to Los Angeles, a G550 or another ultra-long-range jet is the right starting point. If your trip is Europe to the US East Coast, the G450's range is usually enough, and it is typically priced below its larger sibling.

Who the G450 suits

Europe to New York, nonstop

Business travellers based in Geneva, Zurich or on the Riviera are the clearest G450 customers. The ability to leave from the local business aviation terminal and land in the New York area without a stop saves time and fatigue.

Gulf families flying to Europe for the summer

From Dubai or Riyadh, the G450 reaches every European city we cover, and its long cabin and large windows make a daytime flight with children more comfortable.

Groups of eight to twelve on long trips

With up to 19 seats and a zoned cabin, the G450 carries a large group without the feel of a crowded aircraft, and there is room for several people to sleep on night sectors.

When it is not the right jet

Choose something else if you need the newest cabin technology, the lowest price on a short trip, or nonstop range to the US West Coast or the southern hemisphere.

What to ask before you confirm a G450

  • Year and refurbishment. Ask for the year of manufacture, the last cabin refurbishment and recent photos of the aircraft itself.
  • Layout and beds. How many flat berths the layout makes, and whether there is a crew rest area.
  • Connectivity. Older airframes vary most here; confirm system, coverage over the Atlantic and data limits.
  • Crew plan. On long sectors, ask whether the operator plans an augmented crew.
  • Baggage. Share an itemised list so the operator can plan weight and fuel.
  • Operator certificate. In the US, charter for hire is flown under FAA Part 135, and the FAA's Part 135 guidance explains what that certificate covers; elsewhere, the operator holds an air operator certificate from its national authority. We share the operating carrier's details before you book.

How we arrange a Gulfstream G450 charter

You tell us the route, dates, passengers and luggage. We ask licensed operators for available G450s and suitable alternatives, and present them side by side with year, layout, refurbishment and the key terms of each quote. You choose, the operator's contract applies, and we coordinate ground arrangements and any changes until you land. If no G450 is well placed for your dates, we will say so and show the nearest alternatives, whether a Challenger 650, a G550 or a newer Gulfstream, with the trade-offs in range, cabin and estimated cost laid out plainly. For inspiration, our directory of private jet routes lists every corridor we cover with flight times by category.

Gulfstream G450 charter FAQ

Can a Gulfstream G450 fly Geneva to New York nonstop?

On our screening estimates, yes, along with Nice, London, Paris and Madrid to New York. Heavy loads and strong winter headwinds westbound can still lead an operator to plan a fuel stop.

How many passengers does a G450 carry?

Our dataset lists up to 19, with 12 to 14 seats in typical layouts. For a long overnight flight where everyone wants to rest, six to eight passengers is more comfortable.

Is the Gulfstream G450 still in production?

No. Production ended in the late 2010s, and the G500 and G600 replaced it in Gulfstream's range. G450s remain in service with licensed operators, so ask for the year and refurbishment history.

What is the difference between the G450 and the G550?

The G550 carries more fuel and flies further, making it suitable for ultra-long sectors such as New York to Dubai. The G450 is usually priced lower and has enough range for Europe to the US East Coast.

How long does a G450 take from London to New York?

Flight time depends on winds and routing, and westbound is usually slower than eastbound. The route pages in our directory show estimated flight times for each corridor by aircraft category.
