Private jet New York to São Paulo: an overnight crossing of two hemispheres
A private jet New York to São Paulo flight is one of the longest trips on our route network, and one of the most rewarding to plan well. Our model puts the great-circle distance at 4,162 nautical miles, a sector that a heavy jet flies nonstop in about 9 hours 50 minutes and an ultra-long-range jet in about 9 hours 30 minutes. You leave Manhattan in the evening, sleep over the Caribbean and the Amazon, and wake up in Brazil's financial capital with the day ahead of you.
That simple picture hides a few decisions that matter more here than on a domestic trip: which aircraft can really fly the distance without stopping, which São Paulo airport can receive an international private arrival on your date, what Brazilian entry rules apply to your passengers, and how the US customs process works on the way home. This guide walks through each one and explains how to read the flight times and estimate ranges shown above.
We are a charter broker. We do not own or operate aircraft; we source your flight from licensed operators, compare what is available for your dates and stay with the trip until you land. You can read more about how we work on the JetPriceCheck homepage.
Who flies private between New York and Brazil
The corridor links two of the largest financial centres in the Americas, and the people who book it reflect that. Investment teams and company executives fly down for board meetings and deal closings in the business districts around Avenida Paulista and Faria Lima. Brazilian families with homes or schooling in New York travel in both directions around the holidays.
What they share is the problem the airline schedule creates. Scheduled nonstop flights exist, but they run at fixed times, usually overnight, and the arrival hall at a large international airport is only the start of a long ground journey into the city. When plans shift, that becomes the constraint. A private jet charter from New York to São Paulo lets you set the departure time, arrive at a private terminal and keep the whole party, and its luggage, together.
It also works in reverse. Many clients book the São Paulo to New York return as part of the same trip, and the choice between keeping the aircraft in Brazil and releasing it is one of the biggest price levers on this route.
Choosing the aircraft: nonstop range decides everything
On short routes, aircraft choice is about cabin comfort. On a 4,162 nm sector it is about range, because the aircraft category decides whether you fly straight through or land somewhere on the way.
Heavy and ultra-long-range jets: the nonstop options
Our data lists the Heavy Jet as the smallest category that flies this route nonstop. That is why the right-sized aircraft on this page are large-cabin, long-range models such as the Gulfstream G500 and G600, the Bombardier Global 5500 and Global 6500, and the Dassault Falcon 7X and Falcon 8X. Proven types such as the Gulfstream G550 are also regularly offered on long overwater sectors of this kind.
For a night flight of nearly ten hours, cabin layout matters as much as speed. Large-cabin jets are typically configured with several zones, seats that convert into beds, a full galley and a crew rest area, which is what makes it realistic to sleep and arrive ready to work. The operator confirms how many passengers can sleep flat, and that number is often smaller than the number of seats.
An ultra-long-range jet such as the Gulfstream G650 cuts about 20 minutes off the flight time in our model and adds margin against strong headwinds or a diversion.
Super midsize and smaller: plan for a fuel stop
Our table shows the super midsize, midsize and light jet categories as "fuel-stop" on this route. In other words, they cannot fly 4,162 nm in one go with a realistic payload, and a stop along the way is required. The estimated flight times in the table (about 9 hours 55 minutes for a super midsize jet, 10 hours 25 minutes for a midsize and 10 hours 55 minutes for a light jet) are flying time only; the stop itself adds ground time for refuelling and, depending on where it is, border formalities.
Turboprops and VIP airliners are shown with an unknown range fit. A turboprop would need several stops and more than 15 hours of flying time, so it is not a practical choice for this trip. VIP airliners can carry large delegations and are quoted case by case, with the route checked against the specific aircraft. You can compare cabins across all categories in our aircraft guide.
New York departure airports for a flight to Brazil
Teterboro for Manhattan
Teterboro Airport is our typical starting point. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey describes it as a general-aviation reliever close to Midtown with no scheduled airline service. A departure from Teterboro means a short drive to a private terminal, bags loaded directly into the aircraft and a take-off time that suits you rather than an airline.
Westchester County for the northern suburbs
For passengers in Westchester, Fairfield County or the Hudson Valley, Westchester County Airport can remove the cross-town drive. The long-range jets that suit this route operate from both airports, so the choice usually comes down to where you start the day and where the aircraft is based.
JFK when a connection is involved
JFK is on our list mainly for passengers who are connecting from an international airline flight straight onto the charter. For everyone else, a business aviation airport is quicker. Our New York private airports guide compares the options.
Arriving in São Paulo: Congonhas or Guarulhos
This is the part of a private jet New York to São Paulo itinerary where local knowledge makes the biggest difference.
Congonhas for the city's business districts
São Paulo–Congonhas sits inside the city, close to the southern business districts, which is why it is one of the two São Paulo airports in our data. Wikipedia describes it as one of the country's busiest airports for domestic traffic. Its central position is its great advantage: the drive to meetings is far shorter than from an airport on the edge of the metropolitan area. The limits are real, though. Congonhas is a busy, slot-controlled airport with restrictions on night operations, and it is not primarily an international gateway.
Guarulhos for international arrival and entry
São Paulo/Guarulhos International is the city's main international airport, north-east of the centre. For an arrival from New York, the operator's first question is where the aircraft can clear Brazilian customs and immigration on your date and at your arrival time. If that has to happen at Guarulhos, the options are to finish the trip by road or to reposition the aircraft to another São Paulo airfield after clearance. We ask the operator to confirm the plan in writing before you commit, rather than assuming the closest airport will work.
The last few miles
São Paulo traffic is famous for good reason, and the ground leg can take as long as a short flight. Many business travellers use helicopter transfers between airports and rooftop helipads in the business districts, subject to weather and baggage limits. We can arrange the car or helicopter so that it is waiting when you clear the terminal.
Brazil entry, US customs and the paperwork behind the flight
Entering Brazil
A private flight does not change entry rules. Brazil reintroduced a visa requirement for US citizens in 2025, handled through an electronic visa, and requirements for other nationalities vary. The Wikipedia overview of Brazil's visa policy is a starting point, but rules change, so every passenger should confirm the current requirements with the Brazilian consulate for their nationality well before travel. On arrival, passengers go through immigration and customs with the handler at the private terminal of the clearing airport.
Behind the scenes, a foreign operator also needs Brazilian authorisation to fly a charter into the country. That is one reason why not every aircraft on the market can take a short-notice trip to São Paulo, and why we only propose operators that can fly your route legally.
Returning to the United States
On the way home, the aircraft must make its first US landing at an airport where U.S. Customs and Border Protection can process it. The operator files an electronic manifest through CBP's eAPIS system, which federal rules require no later than 60 minutes before departure, and arranges the arrival with CBP; CBP's general aviation processing page explains the process. On a nonstop heavy-jet return, that first landing can be the New York area itself, provided the arrival falls within the customs officers' hours there.
Time zones
São Paulo runs one or two hours ahead of New York, depending on the time of year, because Brazil no longer uses daylight saving time. The small difference is part of the appeal: on an overnight flight you arrive at a normal morning hour without the heavy jet lag of a transatlantic trip.
Private jet New York to São Paulo price: reading the estimates
The ranges on this page come from our demonstration pricing model. They are estimates, not quotes, and a firm price only exists once a licensed operator confirms a specific aircraft for your dates.
| Category | Range fit | Est. flight time | One-way estimate (USD) | Return estimate (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Super Midsize Jet | Fuel stop | 9 h 55 min | 103,000–150,000 | 129,000–188,000 |
| Heavy Jet | Nonstop | 9 h 50 min | 125,000–188,000 | 157,000–235,000 |
| Ultra Long Range Jet | Nonstop | 9 h 30 min | 167,000–259,000 | 209,000–323,000 |
Smaller jets start lower on paper, from an estimated USD 70,000–105,000 one way for a light jet, but their stops add time and handling costs, and on this route they are rarely the value they seem.
What drives the price on this corridor
- Flight hours. Almost ten hours each way makes the hourly rate of the aircraft the dominant cost.
- Positioning. If the aircraft does not return with you, the operator has to fly it home empty from Brazil, or find another trip for it.
- Crew. Flights of this length can need an augmented crew, and a stay in São Paulo adds crew hotel and per diem costs.
- International fees. Handling, navigation, permits and customs arrangements in Brazil and the United States.
- Airport choice. A second hop from Guarulhos to another São Paulo airfield adds a short flight and a second set of fees.
One-way versus return
Our model shows each return estimate well below double the one-way, because a return uses the second sector the aircraft would otherwise fly empty. For a heavy jet, the estimated return range is USD 157,000–235,000, against USD 125,000–188,000 one way. On a short business trip, keeping the aircraft and crew in São Paulo is usually the efficient option. For a stay of a week or more, releasing the aircraft and booking the return separately can make more sense. Our private jet cost guide explains standby days and crew costs in detail. When you have dates in mind, ask JetPriceCheck for a quote and we will price both options side by side.
When to fly: seasons, holidays and events
Because São Paulo is in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons run the opposite way to New York's. Its summer, from December to March, brings heat and heavy afternoon rain showers, while its winter from June to August is mild and drier.
Demand on this corridor follows the business calendar and the holidays more than the weather. Year-end and Carnival, which falls in February or March, see strong family travel in both directions. The Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos, usually held in the last quarter of the year, fills the city's airports and hotels. We do not publish exact event dates; check the organisers' calendars for the year you travel, and book early for those weeks.
Empty legs between New York and São Paulo
Long-range jets fly this corridor for owners and charter clients, and when one flies home without passengers, that sector can be offered as an empty leg at a lower price than a full charter. On a route this long, empty legs are rarer than on short hops, but they do appear, especially after holiday periods.
The trade-off is flexibility: the date, time and aircraft are fixed by the original booking, and the flight can move or be cancelled if that booking changes. They suit travellers with a flexible schedule, not a team with a fixed board meeting. Browse current offers on our empty-leg flights page.

- We follow the flight. If weather, a slot or your plans change, we work with the operator on alternatives.
If your plans take in other cities, browse our directory of charter routes, see other departures from New York, or compare a shorter trip such as a New York to Miami flight.
Frequently asked questions
Can a private jet fly nonstop from New York to São Paulo?
Yes, with the right aircraft. Our data shows heavy and ultra-long-range jets flying the 4,162 nm route nonstop in about 9 hours 30 minutes to 9 hours 50 minutes. Super midsize and smaller jets need at least one fuel stop.
Which São Paulo airport will I land at?
Congonhas is closest to the business districts, but the aircraft first needs an airport where it can clear Brazilian customs and immigration on your date, which may be Guarulhos. We confirm the plan with the operator before you book.
Do I need a visa to fly privately to Brazil?
Entry rules are the same as on an airline. US citizens need a visa under the rules reintroduced in 2025, and other nationalities vary. Check with the Brazilian consulate for each passenger before travel.
