Private jet Miami to Nassau: under an hour to the Bahamas
A private jet Miami to Nassau flight is one of the shortest international trips in private aviation. Our figures put the great-circle distance at 161 nautical miles, and a light jet covers it in about 55 minutes, which means the flight itself is often shorter than the drive to the airport. You leave South Florida's traffic behind, cross the Straits of Florida and the Gulf Stream, and land on New Providence before a scheduled passenger would have cleared airport security.
Short as it is, this is still an international flight, and that is what shapes the trip. The Bahamas has its own entry rules, and the return leg to the United States needs a customs plan. The data sections above this guide show the flight times, the airports at each end, the right-sized aircraft and our estimate ranges. This guide explains how the corridor works in practice, from the ramp at Opa-locka to the resort on Paradise Island and back.

Who flies private between Miami and the Bahamas
The Miami–Nassau corridor serves a mix of travellers that is unusual for such a short route.
Weekend and holiday guests. Families and groups heading to the resorts on Paradise Island, Cable Beach and the western end of New Providence, often for three or four nights. For them, a private jet Miami to Nassau trip removes the check-in queues and the wait for bags on a very short flight.
Business travellers. Nassau is the capital and the financial centre of the Bahamas. Bankers, lawyers, investors and developers fly in for meetings and fly back the same day.
Second-home owners and yacht owners. Many use Nassau as the gateway to the Exumas, Eleuthera, Harbour Island and the other Out Islands, or to meet a yacht. A private flight lets them carry provisions, equipment and luggage that would be awkward on an airline.
Event and celebration groups. Weddings, milestone birthdays and corporate retreats often charter to move a whole group together on one timetable.
Leaving Miami: Opa-locka, Miami International or Fort Lauderdale Executive
Our data lists Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF) as the typical departure airport, with Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) as alternatives.
Opa-locka is a business and general aviation airport north of central Miami, run by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. According to the department's airport page, it is designated as a reliever for Miami International and offers full FBO services and U.S. customs on the airfield. That customs presence matters for this route, as the return section below explains. Our Opa-locka airport guide covers the details.
Fort Lauderdale Executive is the natural choice if you are starting in Broward County or the northern suburbs; see our Fort Lauderdale Executive airport guide. Miami International suits travellers connecting from an airline flight, but it is a busy hub, and most private clients on this route prefer a dedicated business aviation airport. For a wider view of the options, see private jet airports around Miami.
Arriving in Nassau: Lynden Pindling International
The arrival airport for this corridor is Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), the main international gateway to the Bahamas, on the western side of New Providence. According to Wikipedia, it is the country's busiest airport.
Private flights are handled at an FBO rather than the airline terminals. Odyssey Aviation Nassau describes itself as a 24-hour full-service FBO with customs and immigration on site, and it handles aircraft up to large airliners. The operator chooses the FBO, and we pass its details to you with the trip sheet.
From the airport, a car takes you to Cable Beach, downtown Nassau or across the bridges to Paradise Island. Transfer times depend on traffic, especially at weekends and when cruise ships are in port, so we arrange the car before you fly.
Entering the Bahamas and returning to the US
Bahamian entry
On arrival, every passenger clears Bahamian immigration and customs at the FBO. Carry a passport valid for your stay, and complete the immigration card and any other forms the handler gives you. For the aircraft, the Bahamas Customs Department runs an electronic declaration process called Click2Clear, which it describes on its private aircraft declarations page. On a charter, the operator and its handler take care of the aircraft paperwork; your part is to give us a complete and accurate passenger list in advance.
The return: US customs on arrival, not in Nassau
Travellers who know Nassau from airline trips often expect to clear US customs before they leave. Nassau does have a CBP preclearance facility, but it serves scheduled airline passengers. On a private flight, you normally clear US customs on arrival at a US airport with CBP service.
This is where Opa-locka earns its place. CBP publishes a fact sheet for Opa-locka as a general aviation arrival airport, so a Nassau to Miami private jet flight can land, clear customs on the airfield and have you on the road within a short time when the paperwork is in order. The operator files the passenger manifest through CBP's eAPIS system, which federal rules require at least 60 minutes before departure. Late changes to the passenger list can delay the return, so tell us early if someone joins or leaves the group.
CBP staffing hours vary, and weekend evenings can be busy. The operator books the arrival and confirms the time with CBP before you leave Nassau.
Choosing the aircraft for a private flight to the Bahamas from Miami
The aircraft table above shows that every jet category flies this route nonstop. On a sector of 161 nm, the choice is about passengers, luggage and cabin comfort, not range.
Light jets for most small groups
Our data lists the Light Jet as the smallest nonstop category, at about 55 minutes. A type such as the Embraer Phenom 300E suits up to six or seven passengers with sensible luggage. On a flight of under an hour, a light jet's lower cabin rarely matters.
Bigger cabins for bigger groups
A midsize jet such as the Cessna Citation Latitude or a super midsize like the Bombardier Challenger 350 gives more baggage space and a stand-up cabin; our table shows them at about 50 to 55 minutes. Heavy jets such as the Embraer Legacy 650E suit groups of ten or more, at about 50 minutes. On this route, flying time barely changes with aircraft size, so choose on space.
Turboprops: check the route
Turboprops are popular across the Bahamas because many Out Island runways are short, and our model estimates about 1 hour 5 minutes to Nassau. Our data does not confirm a nonstop range fit for the turboprop category here, so we check the specific type, load and conditions with the operator. If your final destination is an Out Island, a turboprop may even fly you straight there, subject to that island's airport of entry status and runway. The aircraft guide compares categories.
Private jet to Nassau cost: reading the estimates
The price table above shows estimates from our demonstration pricing model, in US dollars. They are not quotes and not offers; a firm price comes only from a licensed operator for a specific aircraft and date.
On our model, a one-way private jet Miami to Nassau flight in a light jet sits at an estimated USD 6,500–9,500, a midsize jet at USD 8,000–12,000, a super midsize at USD 10,500–15,000 and a heavy jet at USD 13,000–19,000. A turboprop is estimated at USD 4,500–7,000 one way. Our private jet cost guide explains how the ranges are built.
What moves the price
- Aircraft category, the largest factor.
- International costs. Bahamian landing, handling and departure charges, and US customs arrangements on the return.
- Positioning. South Florida has a large charter fleet, which keeps positioning short on the outbound leg.
- Waiting time. If the aircraft stays in Nassau, crew hotels and parking are added.
- Peak dates. Holiday weeks and long weekends are the busiest.
One-way versus return
For a light jet, our model estimates a return at USD 8,000–12,000, against USD 6,500–9,500 one way, well below double. On such a short route, day trips are common, and pricing both legs together usually makes sense. For longer stays, two one-way trips let the aircraft leave in between.
When you want a firm price, ask JetPriceCheck for a quote and we will check availability with licensed operators.
When to go: seasons and the hurricane window
The Bahamas has a long high season through the winter and spring, when North Americans head south, with busy peaks around the winter holidays and spring break. Summer is quieter and warmer.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, and NOAA's climatology shows the peak of activity around early to mid-September. Most trips are unaffected, but a storm can close airports on both sides of the Straits. For late-summer and autumn travel, keep dates flexible, ask about the operator's policy if a storm threatens, and remember that a flight of under an hour makes it easier to move a trip by a day.
Empty legs on the Miami–Nassau corridor
With so many one-way trips in both directions, this corridor produces empty legs. An aircraft that drops a group in Nassau on Friday may have to return empty to South Florida, and operators often sell that flight at a reduced price. Empty legs are fixed in time and aircraft and can be cancelled if the original client's plans change, so they suit flexible travellers. The empty legs section above shows current listings, and our empty-leg flights page explains how they work.

- We stay with the trip through weather or schedule changes.
The network extends well beyond this route. See other departures from Miami, the New York to Nassau corridor, the Miami to Cancún route, or the full directory of charter routes.
Planning checklist for a Miami to Nassau private flight
- Passports for everyone, including children, valid for the whole stay.
- A complete passenger list at least a day ahead, so the operator can file the Bahamian and US manifests without last-minute changes.
- Luggage and equipment. Dive gear, fishing rods, provisions for a yacht or a villa: tell us early, because baggage volume often decides the aircraft.
- Pets. Both the Bahamas and the United States have import rules for animals, and operators set their own policies; we confirm them before booking.
- Final destination. If you are heading on to an Out Island or a yacht, say so at the start so the flights and transfers fit together.
- Return timing. Late-evening returns depend on CBP hours at the arrival airport, so agree the time before you travel.
