JFK

Arriving in Nassau: Lynden Pindling International

Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is the main international gateway to the Bahamas and, according to Wikipedia, its busiest airport. It sits on the western side of New Providence, a short drive from Cable Beach and farther from downtown Nassau and Paradise Island.

Private flights are handled at an FBO rather than the airline terminals. The airport lists its private flight services, and Odyssey Aviation Nassau describes a full-service FBO with customs and immigration on site. The operator chooses the FBO and we send you its details with the trip sheet.

Allow for traffic on the drive to Paradise Island at busy times, especially when cruise ships are in port. We book the car before you fly.

Onward to the Out Islands

Many New York travellers are not staying in Nassau. They are heading to the Exumas, Eleuthera or Harbour Island. Some of those islands have short runways or limited facilities, and some have no customs service at all. There are two ways to handle it. You can clear customs in Nassau and continue on a small aircraft or by boat, or, where the destination has an airport of entry and a suitable runway, the operator may fly you there directly. Entering the Bahamas and flying home

Bahamian entry

According to the Bahamas Department of Immigration, everyone entering the Bahamas needs a passport, and US citizens do not need a visa for a normal visit. Other nationalities should check their own requirements. On arrival, each passenger clears immigration and customs at the FBO.

For the aircraft, the Bahamas Customs Department runs an electronic declaration process called Click2Clear, described on its private aircraft declarations page. On a charter, the operator and its handler take care of it. Your role is to give us an accurate passenger list with passport details in advance.

The return: US customs at Teterboro

Nassau has a CBP preclearance facility, but it serves scheduled airline passengers. On a private jet from Nassau to New York, you clear US customs on arrival. Teterboro is an airport of entry for general aviation, as CBP's Teterboro fact sheet shows, so the flight home can land close to Manhattan and clear on the airfield.
