Private jet Los Angeles to Seattle: the West Coast corridor in brief
A private jet Los Angeles to Seattle flight connects Southern California's entertainment and investment world with the Pacific Northwest's technology and aerospace economy in about two and a half hours. Our model puts the great-circle distance at 818 nautical miles, and a light jet flies it nonstop in about 2 hours 35 minutes. That is short enough for a same-day return and long enough that the size and comfort of the cabin matter.
The typical pairing on this route is Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley to King County International Airport, better known as Boeing Field, just south of downtown Seattle. Both are close-in airports built around business flying rather than airline hubs, and that is where most of the time savings come from. This guide explains how to read the numbers shown above and adds what you need to know about the airports, the aircraft and the price.

Who flies private between LA and Seattle, and why
Scheduled service between the two cities is frequent, so travellers who charter are rarely short of seats. What they are short of is time. A commercial trip from the Westside or the Valley to downtown Seattle means a drive to LAX, security queues, boarding and then a ride in from Seattle–Tacoma International, which sits well south of the city. Door to door, a two-and-a-half-hour flight easily becomes a five- or six-hour day in each direction.
The people who close that gap with a private flight tend to fall into a few groups:
- Technology and investment teams flying between LA offices and Seattle-area companies for board meetings, due diligence or product reviews, often out and back in a day.
- Entertainment and media travellers, from production crews to touring talent, who need to move a group and equipment on their own schedule.
- Families and second-home owners heading north for summer in the Pacific Northwest, or moving between homes with luggage and pets.
For the first group, the real value of a private jet Los Angeles to Seattle flight is the return leg: you can leave Van Nuys in the morning, spend the day in meetings and be home in Los Angeles for the evening.
Los Angeles departure airports: Van Nuys or LAX
Van Nuys, the default for private flights
Van Nuys Airport is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports and is often described as the busiest general-aviation airport in the United States, with its two parallel runways handling well over 200,000 take-offs and landings a year. It has no scheduled airline traffic competing for the runway, several private terminals and fast access to the Valley, Beverly Hills and the Westside by road. Our Van Nuys airport guide covers terminals and ground access in more detail.
Van Nuys also has a long-standing noise programme. LAWA's noise management page and the airport's noise restrictions describe an ordinance that bars older, noisier Stage 2 aircraft from departing between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The modern jets we propose for this route are not Stage 2 aircraft, but the airport's noise rules are one reason operators plan late-evening departures carefully.
LAX when you are connecting
Los Angeles International makes sense if someone in your group is arriving on an international flight and continuing straight to Seattle. For everyone else, a private terminal at Van Nuys is simpler and usually closer to home. Our Los Angeles private airports guide compares the region's options.
Arriving at Boeing Field in Seattle
King County International Airport, known locally as Boeing Field, sits about four miles south of downtown Seattle, and the drive into the city usually takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic, according to King County's airport pages. It is a busy mixed-use field: corporate jets share it with cargo carriers, helicopters, flight schools and Boeing's own flight operations.
For private travellers, the attraction is proximity. Boeing Field puts you much closer to downtown, South Lake Union and the stadium district than Seattle–Tacoma International, and the private terminals let your car meet you close to the aircraft. For trips to Bellevue, Redmond or the Eastside, the drive across Lake Washington is still usually shorter than a run up from Sea-Tac.
Seattle's weather is worth planning for rather than worrying about. In the cooler months, rain and low cloud are common, and on some days crews fly an instrument approach all the way to the runway. Boeing Field handles that routinely; it may add a few minutes of holding or sequencing on a busy afternoon, so leave slack in a tight meeting schedule. The official King County Boeing Field site has current airport notices.
Choosing the aircraft for a Los Angeles to Seattle private jet charter
At 818 nm, range is not the question for any jet in our table; they all fly the route nonstop. The choice comes down to how many people are travelling, how much they carry and how much cabin you want for two and a half hours.
Light jets for small groups and day trips
Our data lists the Light Jet as the smallest category that flies the route nonstop, at about 2 hours 35 minutes. A light jet like the Embraer Phenom 300E seats four to seven and is fast and economical. The trade-off is headroom and baggage space, which most people accept on a flight of this length.
Midsize and super midsize for comfort and larger groups
Step up when the group grows past five or six, when you need to work at a table on the way, or when luggage is heavy. A midsize jet such as the Cessna Citation Latitude gives you a flat-floor, stand-up cabin, with about 2 hours 25 minutes of flight time in our model. The super midsize Bombardier Challenger 350 and Cessna Citation Longitude add cabin width and range, at about 2 hours 20 minutes. On this route you pay for space, not for time: the difference between the fastest and the slowest jet category is about 20 minutes.
Heavy jets, turboprops and VIP airliners
Heavy jets such as the Embraer Legacy 650E or Bombardier Challenger 650 suit groups of ten or more. Turboprops appear in our table at about 3 hours 30 minutes, and their range on this sector needs checking with the operator, so a fuel stop is possible depending on the aircraft and the load. VIP airliners are arranged case by case for very large groups. Our aircraft guide compares all categories.
Private jet Los Angeles to Seattle price: reading the estimates
The figures below come from our demonstration pricing model. They are estimates, not quotes; a firm price exists only when an operator confirms a specific aircraft for your date.
| Category | Passengers | Est. flight time | One-way estimate (USD) | Return estimate (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Jet | 4–7 | 2 h 35 min | 16,500–24,500 | 20,500–30,500 |
| Midsize Jet | 6–9 | 2 h 25 min | 19,500–29,500 | 24,500–37,000 |
| Super Midsize Jet | 8–9 | 2 h 20 min | 24,500–35,500 | 30,500–44,500 |
| Heavy Jet | 10–14 | 2 h 20 min | 30,000–44,500 | 37,000–56,000 |
What moves the price on this route
- Where the aircraft is based. Southern California has a deep pool of charter aircraft, which helps northbound departures. A one-way from LA may still include the empty flight back if no Seattle-based aircraft is available.
- Same-day returns. An out-and-back in one day keeps the crew with you and avoids a night away, which is why our return estimates sit well below two one-ways.
- Overnight stays. If you stay in Seattle for a night or two, the operator may charge for crew accommodation and waiting days, or reposition the aircraft and send it back later.
- Peak weeks. Summer weekends and major events in either city tighten availability.
Our private jet cost guide explains these drivers in more depth. When you have your dates, ask JetPriceCheck for a quote and we will compare one-way and return options side by side.
Door to door: how the day actually runs
The flight is the fixed part of the trip. The variable parts are the drive to the airport, the time you spend in the terminal and the ride into the city at the other end, and a private flight changes all three.
On the Los Angeles side, the choice of Van Nuys over LAX usually shortens the drive for anyone living in the Valley, Burbank, Calabasas or the hills above Beverly Hills, and it takes the airline terminal loop out of the journey altogether. At a private terminal you arrive a short time before departure, your driver can often bring you close to the aircraft, and your bags are loaded while you board. There is no gate change, no boarding group and no wait for the aircraft ahead of you at the jet bridge.
In Seattle, landing at Boeing Field rather than Sea-Tac removes a long stretch of the I-5 drive into town. For a meeting downtown or in South Lake Union, that can be the difference between arriving flustered and arriving early.
The same logic applies in the evening. Because the aircraft waits for you, a meeting that runs long does not mean a missed flight; the crew simply adjusts the departure time within their duty limits. For a team that flies this corridor regularly, that flexibility is often worth more than the time saved in the air.
A simple way to plan the day:
- Morning: car to Van Nuys, depart after a short check-in, about 2 hours 35 minutes of flying in a light jet.
- Midday: car from Boeing Field to downtown Seattle, usually 15 to 20 minutes.
- Evening: return to Boeing Field when you are ready, fly home and land at Van Nuys the same night.
If you plan to stay, tell us early. Whether the aircraft waits in Seattle or flies home empty and comes back for you is a pricing decision we compare for you.
Empty legs on the Los Angeles–Seattle corridor
Because Los Angeles is such a large charter market, aircraft often reposition north and south along the West Coast, and empty legs do appear between the two cities. They can cost much less than a full charter, but the date, time and aircraft are fixed, and the flight can be cancelled if the original booking changes. They suit flexible travellers and one-way trips best. See current offers on our empty-leg flights page.
