London Luton sits north of the capital and mixes scheduled airline traffic with a large business aviation community served by several private terminals. It is often chosen for the northern suburbs, Hertfordshire, Cambridge and the M1 corridor, and for flights that need a wide choice of handlers or later arrivals.

Biggin Hill: south-east London and Kent

London Biggin Hill serves the south-east of the capital and Kent. It is a business and general aviation airfield without scheduled airline service, which makes it a sensible fit for Canary Wharf by road outside the rush hour, for Kent addresses and for travellers who want a small, quiet terminal.

London City: closest to the financial district, for approved aircraft only

London City Airport in the Docklands is by far the closest airport to Canary Wharf and the City. It is also the most restrictive. Because of the nearby towers, aircraft land on a steep approach of about 5.5 degrees onto a short runway, and each aircraft type, and each operator, needs approval to use it. In practice that narrows the fleet: some light and midsize jets are cleared and many are not, which is why our table notes that only steep-approach-approved aircraft can operate there. Departing Zurich Airport

On the Swiss side there is a single departure airport for this corridor: Zurich Airport, north of the city. Business aviation there runs through dedicated handlers rather than the main airline terminals. The largest, Jet Aviation, took over the former ExecuJet facility in 2021 and offers passport and customs processing on site, so passengers can go from car to aircraft through a small private terminal. Zurich's night rules matter for the evening return

Zurich is one of the more tightly regulated airports in Europe after dark. According to Slot Coordination Switzerland, there is a night ban from 23:30 to 06:00, with the half hour from 23:00 used only to absorb delays, and some categories of flight face an earlier cut-off still. • Customs. Switzerland is outside the EU customs union, and the UK is outside both. Goods, cash above the declaration limits and items such as art or watches for sale follow normal customs rules in each direction.
