Route overview
- At about 3,117 nm, this trip is beyond the typical nonstop range of light jets and midsize jets. Super Midsize Jets are the smallest category that can usually fly it without a fuel stop.
- There are 9 airport combinations for this trip. Choosing between them changes the flying distance by up to 31 nm, so ground transfer time often matters more than the airport choice.
- Madrid–Cuatro Vientos Airport has a runway of about 4,921 ft, which limits the aircraft that can use it.

Private jet Madrid to New York: the Iberian route across the Atlantic
A private jet Madrid to New York flight covers 3,117 nautical miles, a little shorter than the crossing from Paris, and on our data a super midsize jet flies it nonstop in about 7 hours 30 minutes. Interestingly, a heavy jet is estimated at the same time on this route. That tells you something useful before you look at a single aircraft: on this corridor you choose a bigger jet for space, comfort and passenger count, not for speed.
The Madrid end is also different from most European capitals. The city has no dedicated business aviation airport in regular use for jets of this size, so most transatlantic private flights leave from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas, the main international hub, through its separate executive aviation terminal. This guide sits beneath the route data above, which lists flight times, airports, aircraft categories and estimate ranges. It explains how to read them and covers what the tables cannot: the Madrid airport question, border steps on both sides, timing and ground transfers.

Who charters a private jet from Madrid to New York
Madrid has become one of Europe's key bridges between the Americas and the continent. Spanish banks, construction and infrastructure groups, energy companies and family offices do business in New York, and the city is a base for many Latin American executives and families who split their time between Spain and the Americas. Add a growing art and hospitality scene, and the corridor sees a steady flow of business trips, family moves and event travel.
The typical group is small and time-sensitive: an executive with advisers heading to Manhattan for meetings, or a family travelling with a lot of luggage. A private jet charter from Madrid to New York lets them leave at a time that suits the day, skip the queues of a busy hub terminal and land close to Midtown instead of at a large international airport.
Choosing the aircraft for a Madrid to New York private flight
Super midsize: the smallest nonstop category
Our route data names the super midsize jet as the smallest category that flies the route nonstop, at about 7 hours 30 minutes. With eight or nine seats, stand-up headroom in most types and a practical baggage hold, it suits most working trips. Right-sized aircraft include the Bombardier Challenger 650, the Embraer Praetor 600 and the Dassault Falcon 2000LXS. Cabin layouts vary by operator, so the seat count on a specific aircraft may differ from the category range.
Heavy and ultra long range jets
A heavy jet, for 10 to 14 passengers on our figures, is estimated at the same 7 hours 30 minutes. What it adds is room: a separate rear cabin, a larger galley and more space to sleep on the overnight return. The Embraer Legacy 650E and the Gulfstream G450 are in the right-sized list. An ultra long range jet shaves the time to about 7 hours 15 minutes and seats 12 to 17, but it is more aircraft than the distance needs; people choose it for cabin quality or for an onward trip beyond New York.
A note on Madrid's altitude and summer heat
Madrid sits on a high central plateau, and Barajas is several hundred metres above sea level. On hot summer afternoons, thin warm air reduces an aircraft's take-off performance, which can limit the fuel and payload a jet can lift. On a route near a category's range limit, the operator may plan a departure time, a lighter load or a larger aircraft to keep the flight nonstop. We raise it with the operator for any summer departure with a full cabin.
Light and midsize jets, turboprops and VIP airliners
Light and midsize jets appear with a fuel-stop fit, at about 8 hours 20 minutes and 7 hours 55 minutes of flying time. Those times exclude the stop, which on a North Atlantic routing adds ground time, handling and weather exposure; a light jet may need more than one. Turboprops are not a realistic option for this crossing. VIP airliners, for 19 to 50 passengers, can fly the route but face weight limits at Teterboro. Our aircraft guide explains each category.
Madrid to New York private jet cost: reading the estimates
The price table above shows estimate ranges from our demonstration pricing model in US dollars. They are not quotes and not offers. A firm price comes only from a licensed operator for a specific aircraft and date, and it can land above or below our range.
For a private jet Madrid to New York trip, our model estimates:
- Super midsize jet: about USD 78,000 to 115,000 one way, or USD 98,000 to 143,000 return.
- Heavy jet: about USD 96,000 to 143,000 one way, or USD 119,000 to 179,000 return.
- Ultra long range jet: about USD 128,000 to 197,000 one way, or USD 159,000 to 246,000 return.
The light and midsize estimates, from about USD 53,000 and USD 64,000 one way, describe a trip with at least one stop. Our private jet cost guide explains how these ranges are built.
Why the return is better value
Our return estimates are well below double the one-way figure in every category, because a one-way booking usually pays for the aircraft to fly home empty. If you are coming back within a few days, ask us to price both legs together, including crew rest and parking in New York. For a stay of several weeks, two one-way bookings are usually the better choice.
Factors specific to this corridor
- Aircraft location. Fewer long-range jets are based in Madrid than in London or Paris, so positioning from elsewhere in Europe is a bigger share of the cost here.
- Season. Summer and the holiday periods are busiest; August is quieter for business travel in Spain.
- Payload and temperature. As explained above, hot days in Madrid can push you towards a larger aircraft.
- Waiting time and fees. Crew hotels, parking and airport charges vary with airport and stay.
When you are ready for a firm figure, ask JetPriceCheck for a quote with your dates, passengers and baggage.
Madrid's airports: why Barajas is usually the answer
Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas
Barajas is owned and operated by Aena and is the airport most operators plan around for a transatlantic departure. Aena lists it among the Spanish airports with a dedicated executive aviation terminal, where private passengers check in, pass security and complete passport control away from the main terminals. The airport lies north-east of the city, so the drive from Salamanca, Chamberí or La Moraleja is usually short outside peak hours.
Madrid–Torrejón: check before you plan
Torrejón, east of the city, is a military air base that for years also served as Madrid's business aviation airport. Its Wikipedia entry reports that it closed to civil business and general aviation in 2013, with private traffic moving to Barajas. It still appears in our airport list for this route, so if an operator proposes it we ask for written confirmation of current arrangements.
Madrid–Cuatro Vientos
Cuatro Vientos, south-west of the centre, is a general aviation airfield with a runway of about 1,500 metres and operations limited to visual flight rules, according to Wikipedia. That rules it out for a long-range jet on a transatlantic departure. Our Cuatro Vientos airport page sets out its limits, and our overview of private jet airports around Madrid compares the options.
Leaving Spain and entering the United States
Schengen exit at Barajas
Spain is part of the Schengen Area, so a flight to New York is a Schengen exit, with passport control at the executive terminal before boarding. Non-EU travellers should check that their stay in the Schengen Area has stayed within the rules for their nationality. On the way back, non-EU passengers are registered under the EU's Entry/Exit System, which has been operating since October 2025, so allow a few extra minutes at the first entry.
US arrival formalities
The operator files an electronic manifest through CBP's eAPIS system, which federal rules require no later than 60 minutes before departure, and books the customs appointment at the arrival airport. The CBP fact sheet for Teterboro sets out the facility's hours, and we plan the Madrid departure time so the aircraft lands inside them.
Spanish citizens often travel to the US on an ESTA. On a private jet that is valid only if the operator is a Visa Waiver Program signatory carrier, as listed on CBP's signatory carriers page. Passengers from Latin America may need a US visa instead. Give us every passenger's nationality when you book, and we check the documents before we quote.
Arriving in New York
Teterboro Airport is the usual arrival. It lies in New Jersey about 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan and has a 100,000-pound weight limit, according to Wikipedia; every business jet in the right-sized list sits within it. Westchester County Airport, about 30 miles north of Manhattan according to Wikipedia, suits Greenwich and the northern suburbs. JFK is in our list mainly for VIP airliners that exceed Teterboro's limit.
Timing a Madrid to New York private flight
Madrid is usually six hours ahead of New York; for a short period in spring and autumn the gap is five hours because the clocks change on different dates. On our super midsize estimate of about 7 hours 30 minutes, a 12:00 departure from Barajas, after a morning meeting in Madrid, lands at Teterboro around 13:30 local time. Westbound crossings usually fly into the prevailing winds, so the operator's flight plan gives the real time on the day. The eastbound return is generally quicker and is often flown overnight, landing in Madrid in the morning.
Empty legs on the Madrid–New York route
Long-range jets reposition across the Atlantic after one-way trips, so empty legs occasionally appear on this corridor, especially towards Madrid. An empty leg is sold for less because the aircraft has to fly anyway, but the schedule belongs to the original booking and can change or be cancelled. They suit flexible one-way travellers. Our empty-leg flights page lists what is available.
