Torrejón lies to the east of the city, about 17 nautical miles from Cuatro Vientos. It is owned by the Spanish Air and Space Force and has a civil area operated by Aena (Wikipedia). Its long runway takes every business jet category, and it is the airport many Madrid private flyers use when discretion and a quieter terminal matter. The trade-off is location: for clients in the west or south of Madrid, the drive is longer than to Cuatro Vientos.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas

Barajas is Madrid's main airline hub, about 13 nautical miles from Cuatro Vientos, north-east of the centre. It accepts any aircraft and offers extensive services, which makes it a sensible choice for long-haul flights, very large aircraft and trips that connect with airline flights. The trade-offs are the scale of a major hub and busier airspace.

Cuatro Vientos is reached from the south-western ring roads, and for clients in the Salamanca district, Chamberí or the centre, the drive is short outside rush hour. For clients in the western suburbs, such as Pozuelo de Alarcón, Aravaca or Boadilla del Monte, it can be the nearest airfield by some distance.

Tips for the day:

• Allow for Madrid traffic. The M-30 and M-40 ring roads slow down at peak times. Build in a margin for morning and evening departures.
