Private jet New York to Cancún: nonstop to the Caribbean coast of Mexico
A private jet New York to Cancún flight takes you from Teterboro to the edge of the Riviera Maya in about four hours. Our figures put the great-circle distance at 1,357 nautical miles, and a light jet covers it nonstop in about 3 hours 55 minutes, while larger jets shave around half an hour off that. Every jet category in our model flies the route without a stop, which makes it one of the easiest international private trips from New York to plan.
The data sections above set out the numbers for this corridor: flight times by category, the airports at each end, estimate ranges and the right-sized aircraft. This guide explains how to read them and adds what the numbers leave out: which cabin suits a four-hour flight, how Mexican entry works on a private jet, how to reach Playa del Carmen or Tulum after landing, and how the season shapes availability.
We are a charter broker. We do not own or operate aircraft. We source your flight from licensed operators, compare what is available for your dates and stay with the trip until you land. You can read more about how we work on the JetPriceCheck homepage.
Who flies private from New York to Cancún
Most people on this corridor are travelling for leisure. Families take the whole household south for a school break. Groups of friends fly down for a milestone birthday, and wedding parties travel to the resorts along the coast. Owners of villas in Tulum, Playa del Carmen or Puerto Morelos use the route through the winter.
What they are escaping is not only the cold. Cancún International is one of the busiest airports in Latin America, and the arrivals process in the airline terminals can be slow in peak season. On a private jet New York to Cancún charter, you leave from a private terminal in New Jersey or Westchester and arrive at a separate private aviation terminal in Cancún, where immigration and customs are handled away from the main halls. Luggage, surf boards and diving gear travel with you, and the car is waiting outside.
Choosing the aircraft for a New York to Cancún private flight
Light jets: nonstop, with care on luggage
Our data lists the light jet as the smallest category that flies the route nonstop, at about 3 hours 55 minutes. A modern light jet such as the Embraer Phenom 300E suits a couple or a small group travelling light. Two points to keep in mind: you cannot stand upright in most light-jet cabins, which is more noticeable over four hours than over one, and a full load of passengers and baggage uses more of the aircraft's range. The operator checks the load for your date, and we tell you if the plan needs a different aircraft.
Midsize and super midsize jets: the comfort step
For most families, a midsize or super midsize jet is the better fit for a four-hour flight. A Cessna Citation Latitude gives you a stand-up cabin with a flat floor. A Bombardier Challenger 350 or a Cessna Citation Longitude adds a wider cabin for eight or nine passengers and a bigger baggage hold, which matters with resort luggage for a week. Our model shows these categories at about 3 hours 35 to 3 hours 45 minutes, so the gain is comfort rather than time.
Heavy jets and larger groups
For groups of 10 or more, a heavy jet such as the Embraer Legacy 650E or the Bombardier Challenger 650 gives more seats and separate cabin zones. VIP airliners are arranged case by case for wedding parties or corporate groups.
Turboprops
Turboprops are shown in our data at about 5 hours 25 minutes with "check the route". Over this distance a turboprop may need a stop, and the long over-water section of the route calls for a suitable aircraft. The operator confirms it. You can compare every category in our aircraft guide.
New York departure airports
Teterboro (TEB)
Teterboro is the typical departure airport in our data. Owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, it is a general aviation reliever airport about 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan with no scheduled airline service, according to Wikipedia. Our Teterboro airport guide covers the FBOs and access.
Westchester County (HPN)
For families north of the city or in Connecticut, Westchester County Airport avoids the drive into New Jersey. Ask us to include it when you request options.
JFK
JFK is listed as an alternative, but its airline congestion means most private travellers use it only when an aircraft is already positioned there. Our guide to New York's private jet airports compares the three.
Arriving in Cancún
Cancún International (CUN)
Cancún International is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) and handles general and executive aviation as well as airline traffic, according to Wikipedia. Private flights use the FBO, which ASUR places on the north-west side of the airfield, beside Terminal 3. ASUR's FBO services page lists ground handling, fuel coordination, ground transport and catering. The operator chooses the handler and we pass the details to you before departure.
Tulum as an alternative
A newer option has opened further south. Tulum International Airport opened in December 2023, and its Wikipedia entry describes a long runway and a dedicated general aviation apron. If your villa or resort is in Tulum or further down the coast, landing there can save a long drive. It is not listed as a standard airport in our data for this corridor, so ask us to check it with the operator for your dates, including customs availability.
The drive to the Riviera Maya
From Cancún airport, the Hotel Zone and Puerto Morelos are close. Playa del Carmen is further south along the coastal highway, and Tulum further again. Traffic varies with the time of day and the season. We arrange the car before you fly so it is waiting at the FBO.
Mexican entry and the flight home
Arriving in Mexico
Every passenger clears Mexican immigration and customs at the FBO. Everyone needs a valid passport. Mexico's migration institute (INM) now issues a digital tourist form (the FMM) for air arrivals, with the officer stamping your passport and recording the length of stay, rather than the paper card used in the past. Visa requirements depend on nationality: US citizens do not need a visa for a tourist visit, while others should check the summary of Mexico's visa policy and the official consular guidance for their passport.
For the aircraft, Mexico's civil aviation agency (AFAC) regulates foreign operators. Trip-support specialist Universal Weather explains in its Mexico permit guide that charter operators need a validated blanket permit, and that flights to and from Mexico file a Mexican passenger manifest. On a charter, that is the operator's job. Your part is to send complete passenger details early, because permits and manifests depend on them.
The return: US customs at Teterboro
There is no US preclearance for private aircraft in Cancún. On the way home, the operator files the passenger manifest through eAPIS, which US rules require at least 60 minutes before departure, and the aircraft clears US customs on arrival. Teterboro is an airport of entry for general aviation, as CBP's Teterboro fact sheet shows, so you can land close to Manhattan and clear on the airfield.
Private jet New York to Cancún cost: reading the estimates
The price table above shows estimate ranges from our demonstration pricing model, in US dollars. They are not quotes and not offers. A firm price comes only from a licensed operator for a specific aircraft and date.
On our model, a one-way light jet for a private jet New York to Cancún flight sits at an estimated USD 25,000–37,500. A midsize jet shows at about USD 30,000–45,000, a super midsize jet at about USD 37,000–54,000 and a heavy jet at about USD 45,000–68,000. Our private jet cost guide explains how these figures are built.
What moves the price
- Aircraft category. Driven by group size and luggage more than by range.
- Positioning. In peak weeks, many aircraft are already in Mexico or Florida. Bringing one to Teterboro and taking it back is part of the cost.
- Season. Winter holidays and spring break create the tightest weeks.
- Waiting time. An aircraft that stays in Cancún for your return adds crew hotels and parking.
- Fees and permits. Landing, handling and permit costs vary with aircraft size.
One-way versus return
Our model shows the return estimate well below double the one-way figure. For a light jet the return range is about USD 31,000–46,500, against USD 25,000–37,500 one way, because a one-way trip usually pays for the aircraft to fly home empty. For a stay of a week or longer, two one-ways may be better value than keeping the aircraft in Mexico, and we will compare both.
When you are ready for firm prices, request a quote through JetPriceCheck and we will set out options from licensed operators side by side.
When to fly: winter peak, spring break and hurricane season
Demand for a New York to Cancún private flight follows the northern winter. The year-end holidays, February school breaks and the spring break weeks are the busiest times, and aircraft availability tightens around them. Book early for those dates and keep a day of flexibility if you can.
Summer and autumn bring quieter weeks, but the coast sits inside the Atlantic hurricane season, which NOAA sets from 1 June to 30 November, with peak activity from mid-August to late October, according to its tropical cyclone climatology. A storm can close airports or change plans at short notice, so we follow the forecast with the operator and discuss options before your flight.
Empty legs between New York and Cancún
Seasonal traffic sends many aircraft south and brings them back empty, so this corridor sees empty legs in both directions, especially at the start and end of holiday weeks. They can cost much less than a standard charter, but the date, time and aircraft are fixed, and the flight can change if the original client's plans change. Our empty-leg flights page lists what is available now.

Planning checklist for a New York to Cancún private flight
- Passports. Every passenger needs a valid passport, including children, for Mexico and for the return to the United States.
- Passenger list. Send names, nationalities and passport details early; Mexican permits and both countries' manifests are built from them.
- Luggage. Resort luggage, golf clubs and diving gear decide the cabin more often than the headcount does.
- Where you are staying. Cancún, Playa del Carmen or Tulum changes the transfer, and possibly the arrival airport.
- Season. Book early for holiday weeks and spring break; watch the forecast in hurricane season.
- Return plan. Decide whether the aircraft waits in Mexico or whether two one-ways make more sense.
