Departing from Munich Airport

Munich does not have a separate business aviation airport, so private flights use Munich Airport, about 28.5 km north-east of the city near Freising. The advantage is that private passengers do not use the airline terminals at all.

According to the airport's own General Aviation Terminal page, the GAT handles private and business aviation, meaning aircraft over two tonnes that are not flying scheduled or charter airline services. It sits on the eastern side of the airport campus, about 2 km north-east of Terminal 2, with short-term parking right beside it and hangars next door. Several fixed-base operators (FBOs) work from the terminal; your operator chooses one, and we send you its details with the trip sheet.

For timing, note Munich's night rules. The airport's night flight page explains that between 22:00 and midnight and between 05:00 and 06:00 only aircraft on a special low-noise list may operate, and the core night from midnight to 05:00 is closed to almost all traffic. For most day trips that is irrelevant, but late returns from Milan should be planned with these hours in mind.

Arriving in Milan: Linate or Malpensa

Milan has two main airports for private flights, and the choice matters more than the flying time.

Milan Linate: close to the city

Linate is our typical arrival airport for a Munich to Milan Linate private jet, and it is easy to see why. It lies about 7 km east of the city centre, and the M4 metro line reaches San Babila in about 15 minutes, according to Wikipedia. By car, the drive into central Milan is usually short outside rush hour.

Business aviation at Linate is handled by SEA Prime, which trades as Milano Prime and runs the business and general aviation terminals at both Linate and Malpensa, with its own border facilities, lounges and hangars. The company describes Milano Linate Prime as Italy's most important business aviation hub and one of the top ten in Europe. It recently opened a new terminal wing of about 2,000 m² with nine lounges, and traffic in early 2026 rose 13.5% on the previous year, with peaks of more than 130 movements a day during the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, according to Aviation International News.

Milan Malpensa: when it makes more sense

Malpensa lies about 49 km north-west of Milan. That is a longer drive into the centre, but Malpensa can be the better choice if your meeting is in the north-west of the metropolitan area, if you are heading towards Lake Maggiore, or when Linate is busy during a major event. Milano Prime also operates there, so the arrival experience is similar. We weigh the ground transfer against the flying time and tell you which airport gives the shorter door-to-door trip.

Border and documents: a Schengen flight

Germany and Italy are both in the Schengen Area and the EU customs union, so a Munich to Milan private flight is treated much like a domestic one: there is normally no passport control on arrival. That does not mean you can travel without documents.
