The main Palm Beach airport for private flights

Most private flights from Palm Beach use the county's main airport, listed in our data as Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). It sits just west of downtown West Palm Beach, a short drive across the Intracoastal Waterway from the island itself, and it is a mixed airport: airline terminals on one side, private aviation terminals and ramps on the other.

A new name, the same airport

In July 2026, according to the airport operator's name change FAQs and national news coverage, Palm Beach International was renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with its codes moving from PBI and KPBI to DJT and KDJT. Nothing about the runways, the private terminals or the drive from the island has changed. What it does mean is that you may see either name and either code on trip sheets, operator confirmations and flight-tracking apps for a while. If you spot a difference between two documents, it is almost certainly the rename, but tell us and we will check.

The smaller county airports

Palm Beach County also runs smaller general aviation airports, including Palm Beach County Park Airport in Lantana and North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport further north. They are built for smaller aircraft and are not a like-for-like replacement for the main airport. For a piston or small turboprop trip they can be convenient, especially if you are staying in Jupiter or in the southern part of the county. Whether a given jet can use them is a question for the operator, based on runway, weight and weather, and we raise it only when it helps your trip.

Two things stand out. First, these are long trips for a turboprop. A modern single-engine or twin turboprop can fly them, and it is usually the lowest-cost way to do it, but four hours at turboprop speed is a real commitment. Second, the step up to a light or midsize jet shortens the flight noticeably at these distances, because jets cruise faster and higher, often above the weather. On a three- or four-hour sector, that time saving is one of the few places where a bigger aircraft genuinely changes the trip, not only the cabin. Turboprop, light jet or midsize: choosing the aircraft

For a private jet charter Palm Beach departure, the choice usually comes down to four questions.

• How many people, and how much luggage? A winter visit brings golf bags, a season's wardrobe and sometimes a dog. A light jet's baggage hold fills fast; a midsize or super midsize jet has far more room.

The holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year are among the busiest periods of the year. Aircraft, crews and parking at the private terminals are in demand, and the most popular departure times go first.

January to March: peak season. The social calendar on the island, the equestrian season in Wellington and a steady flow of business travel to and from New York keep traffic high. Weekend patterns are strong: Thursday and Friday arrivals, Sunday and Monday departures.

April and May: the exodus. Northbound demand takes over as winter residents return home. Again, aircraft often fly one way full and one way empty, which is where empty legs come from.

Summer and autumn: the quieter months. Traffic falls, and trips run from Palm Beach to cooler places. This is also the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from 1 June to 30 November. A storm can close airports for a day or two and leave aircraft repositioned out of the area. Palm Beach is one of the closest large airports in the United States to the Bahamas, and short private trips to the islands are common. They are international flights, so a few extra steps apply:

• Every passenger needs a valid passport and the right entry documents for the destination and for the return to the United States.
• The operator files passenger details with U.S. Customs and Border Protection through eAPIS before departure and before the return.
• On the way back, the aircraft must land at an airport where customs clearance is available and arranged in advance.
