It is an easy drive from downtown and the northern and eastern suburbs, and it has the space and services that larger aircraft need.

Tulsa Riverside Airport (RVS)

The airport listed in our data as Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. Airport has been called Tulsa Riverside Airport since the start of 2022, according to Fly Tulsa; the codes RVS and KRVS did not change. It sits south-west of downtown along the Arkansas River and is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the region, with many based aircraft and flight schools.

Riverside is convenient for travellers in south Tulsa, Jenks, Bixby and Broken Arrow's southern neighbourhoods, and for smaller aircraft such as turboprops and light jets. An aviation city with a small local fleet

Tulsa has deep roots in aviation. Aerospace manufacturing and aircraft maintenance are major local employers, and Tulsa International is home to one of the largest airline maintenance bases in the country. Dallas and Houston: Oklahoma's Texas connections

Dallas is Tulsa's shortest common trip, about an hour and a quarter in a turboprop in our model. The drive is several hours each way, and airline trips still mean time at both terminals, so a private same-day return is often the most efficient way to fit in a Dallas meeting. Houston, at just under two hours, is the other key energy-industry trip.

Chicago and Atlanta

Chicago and Atlanta are the big Midwest and Southeast business centres, both under three hours in our model. Many travellers choose a light jet for these trips: it flies higher and faster than a turboprop, at a higher hourly rate.

Toronto and Washington

Toronto and Washington are both around 3 hours 45 minutes in a turboprop in our model. For trips of that length, a light or midsize jet is often the more comfortable choice and can be noticeably faster. Toronto is an international flight: all passengers need passports, and the aircraft clears customs in Canada and again when it returns to the United States.

Spring and early summer bring severe thunderstorms, hail and the risk of tornadoes; summer is hot, with afternoon storms; winter can bring ice and snow that need de-icing and occasionally close airports for short periods. None of this makes private flying unusual here, but it does mean building some flexibility into your plans.

In practice: in spring and summer, morning departures are often smoother; in winter, allow time for de-icing and road conditions. If the operator decides that conditions are not safe, its decision is final, and we work with you on a new time or airport.
