Toronto airports for private jets

Toronto has two airports that matter for private flights, and they suit very different aircraft.

Toronto Pearson International (YYZ)

Toronto Pearson is Canada's largest airport and the practical choice for almost every private jet flight from the city. Business aircraft use private terminals away from the airline halls, so you drive to a small building, pass through a short security and document check and walk to the aircraft. Pearson lies north-west of downtown in Mississauga, which makes it convenient for the western suburbs, Oakville, Vaughan and the airport corridor. From Bay Street or Yorkville, the drive depends heavily on the time of day on Highway 427, the 401 and the Gardiner.

Pearson handles every size of aircraft, from light jets to long-range jets bound for Europe, and it has border services for international arrivals.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ)

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport sits on the Toronto Islands, minutes from the Financial District by the pedestrian tunnel or the short ferry. It is the most convenient airport in the city, but it has a long-standing restriction on jet aircraft under the agreement that governs the airport. In practice, that means Billy Bishop is an option for turboprops, not jets.

For short trips, that can be a real advantage. A turboprop is the smallest category that flies Toronto to New York nonstop in our model, and leaving from the waterfront can save more time than a faster aircraft would. For larger groups, longer trips or anything that needs a jet, Pearson is the answer. We'll check the aircraft's eligibility and the airport's hours before we suggest Billy Bishop.

Toronto to New York: the city's busiest private corridor

The corridor we cover from Toronto runs to New York, about 300 nautical miles. It links Bay Street with Wall Street and Midtown, and it carries bankers, lawyers, media executives, sports teams and families on weekend trips.

In our model, a turboprop flies it nonstop in about 1 h 35 min, with a one-way estimate of USD 6,500–10,000; light jets are a little quicker. pereJets, in The Busiest Private Jet Routes in the World (2026), reports 1,333 observed private jet movements between Toronto and New York. That is a third-party ADS-B tracking figure that we haven't verified, shown only to indicate relative demand; it says nothing about availability or price on your date.

Crossing the border by private jet

Because most short trips from Toronto go to the United States, the border is part of almost every booking. On a private flight it's simpler than at an airline terminal, but it still has rules.

Flying to the United States. The operator files an electronic passenger manifest with US Customs and Border Protection through eAPIS before departure. Airline passengers at Pearson use US preclearance, but private flights normally clear CBP on arrival at a US airport where officers are available. Some of those airports have set hours, so the arrival time matters. Every passenger needs a valid passport and any visa or travel authorisation their nationality requires.

Flying home to Canada. The pilot reports the arrival to the Canada Border Services Agency in advance, as set out in CBSA's reporting memorandum, and lands at an airport where border services are available. Visitors who aren't Canadian citizens or permanent residents may need an eTA or a visa. Canada doesn't run exit immigration checks, so leaving Toronto is quick.

Up to about two hours, a turboprop or light jet does the job for most small groups, and the choice comes down to cabin space and which airport you want to use. On longer trips such as Dallas, a turboprop can fly nonstop in our model, but a light or midsize jet shortens the flight considerably and gives you a cabin to work in. Leisure flying from Toronto

• Cottage country. Muskoka, the Kawarthas and Georgian Bay fill up on summer weekends. Small regional airfields there suit turboprops and light jets, and a flight of well under an hour replaces a Friday drive that can take much longer on Highway 400.
• Florida and the Caribbean. Palm Beach, Naples, Miami and the islands draw Torontonians from November to April. These are international flights with the US or island entry rules that apply.

Winter in Toronto: planning around snow and de-icing

Toronto's winters are long, and they affect private flights more than the other seasons.

• De-icing. On snowy or freezing days, every aircraft needs de-icing before take-off, which adds time and cost. Build a margin into the schedule on winter mornings.
• Snow at the other end. Storms along the US East Coast and in the Midwest can close airports or slow arrivals for hours.
• Busy holiday weeks. Christmas, the Family Day weekend, March Break and US holidays such as Thanksgiving all push up demand for aircraft, especially flights south to Florida.
• Summer peaks. Summer weekends to cottage country and the September film festival season bring their own busy days.

What shapes the price of a private jet from Toronto

The "From" figure in the route table is the lowest one-way estimate for the smallest aircraft that can fly the route nonstop. It's an estimate, not a quote. The price you'll be offered depends on:

1. Positioning. If the aircraft has to fly empty to Toronto, or back to base after dropping you, those hours are usually included.
