Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN, ICAO LEBL) sits on the coast south-west of the city and is run by Aena, the Spanish airport operator. It is a large commercial hub, but it has a separate corporate aviation terminal with its own passport control and security, so private passengers do not use the airline halls. It takes every size of business aircraft, from turboprops to long-range jets.

The drive from the centre is usually short by European capital standards, although traffic on the ring roads at rush hour can add time. For most private flights from Barcelona, El Prat is the default choice.

Sabadell: for smaller aircraft

Sabadell Airport, north of the city, is a general aviation airport that suits turboprops and some light jets. For a short flight to the Balearics or the Pyrenees in a small aircraft, it can be convenient if you are staying in the northern suburbs or the hills behind the city. Its runway limits the aircraft that can use it, so it is not an option for larger jets or longer trips. We check it case by case.

Girona and Reus: for the coasts

If you are staying on the Costa Brava to the north, Girona can be closer than El Prat. If you are on the Costa Daurada to the south, near Sitges, Salou or Tarragona, Reus may save time. The constraint is not distance but the island's summer demand: slots and parking at Ibiza are tight in July and August. Entry and exit rules

Spain is in the Schengen Area. A flight from Barcelona to another Schengen country, such as France, Italy or Germany, generally needs no exit passport check, although you must still carry valid identity documents. A flight to the United Kingdom, Türkiye or anywhere outside Schengen involves exit checks, and the EU's Entry/Exit System registers many non-EU travellers at the external border.
