Why private jets use Dubai World Central

Dubai International is one of the busiest airports on earth, and its runways are dedicated overwhelmingly to airline traffic. Private flights are allowed there, but slots and parking are limited. DWC has the opposite profile: a very long runway, plenty of space and, for now, relatively light airline traffic. That combination makes it the practical choice for most business aviation into Dubai.

Slots and parking

At DWC, an operator can usually secure an arrival or departure at the time you want, and the aircraft can park on the airport for the length of your stay. At DXB, both can be difficult at busy times, and a common workaround is to drop passengers at DXB and reposition the aircraft to DWC anyway. If you are staying for several days, or your schedule is likely to move, DWC removes a layer of uncertainty.

The runway

According to Wikipedia, Al Maktoum's runway is about 4,500 m long, roughly 14,764 ft. That is one of the longest in the region and far beyond what any business jet needs, so runway length is never the constraint here. It matters most on the hottest summer days, when aircraft performance falls and long-range jets need more runway to take off fully fuelled. At DWC, an ultra-long-range jet can depart for New York or Singapore with a full cabin and full fuel in conditions that would force compromises at shorter airfields. Because DWC's airline side is still small, the airport feels calm. Getting from DWC to the city

The map above shows the driving route from central Dubai. DWC's position on the south-western side of the emirate means the drive to Deira or Downtown is longer than from DXB, while the drive to Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Expo City is often shorter. The main highways, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, connect DWC with the rest of Dubai, and the coastal Sheikh Zayed Road runs close by toward Abu Dhabi.

Chauffeured cars are the standard transfer, arranged through the operator or the private terminal. Dubai's traffic can be heavy at commuting times, so for city-centre destinations, allow extra margin. Helicopter transfers can be arranged for some destinations, subject to permits and weather; ask us when you book.

Who flies private through Al Maktoum

Business travellers and family offices. Executives and principals on regional and long-haul business, especially those with meetings in the western parts of the city or in Abu Dhabi.

Customs, entry and arrival at DWC

International arrivals clear UAE immigration and customs through the private facilities at DWC. Every passenger needs a valid passport and the correct UAE entry permission for their nationality, which applies equally to private and airline travellers. The operator files the manifest in advance, so give us passenger names and passport details as early as you can. Dubai's private aviation calendar follows the weather. The cooler months from roughly October to April are the busiest, with winter-sun leisure travel, conferences and major events. The summer is intensely hot, leisure traffic falls and the flow reverses, with many Gulf residents flying to Europe for the season. Heat also affects aircraft performance and ground comfort, so summer departures are often planned for the cooler hours.

Beyond the Dubai Airshow, which takes place every other year in the cooler months, big demand spikes come with the winter holidays, major conferences at Expo City and the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 weekend near the end of the year. Regional events can affect Gulf airspace. In 2026, regional airspace measures led to temporary suspensions of flights at both DWC and DXB, as reported in the Dubai Airports media centre. The future of Al Maktoum International

DWC is at the centre of one of the largest airport projects in the world. According to Gulf News, the first phase of the expanded airport is scheduled to open in 2032, when airline operations are planned to begin moving from DXB. Reports describe a first-phase capacity of around 150 million passengers a year, rising to about 260 million when complete, with five parallel runways.

For private travellers, the expansion is a mixed picture. More runways and facilities will add capacity, but the airport's calm, uncrowded character will change as airline traffic arrives. Business aviation will stay at DWC, but the details of how it fits alongside a mega-hub are still to be settled. We will update this guide as the plans take shape.

Charter prices depend mainly on the aircraft category, the flight time and where the aircraft is based. At DWC, landing, handling and parking fees vary by aircraft size and length of stay, but the easy parking often makes DWC cheaper than DXB for multi-day trips, because the aircraft does not need to reposition.
