Why fly privately to Dubai

Dubai draws two kinds of private traveller, often on the same aircraft. Business travellers come for the financial centre, real-estate and trading houses, conferences and regional headquarters. Leisure travellers come for winter sun, beach resorts, desert retreats and a busy calendar of sport and events. Many trips mix both.

The scheduled network to Dubai is huge, so a private flight is less about access and more about control:

• Timing. Long-haul airline schedules into Dubai cluster at night. A private flight leaves when you are ready, which matters on a seven-hour sector from Europe.
• Privacy and rest. A long flight in a private cabin lets you work, talk or sleep without interruption, and arrive ready for the day.
• A calmer arrival. Private passengers clear formalities in a dedicated terminal rather than in the main airline halls of one of the world's busiest airports.
• Onward flexibility. Dubai is a natural base for side trips to Riyadh, Doha, the Maldives or back to Europe, all without re-entering an airline hub.

Al Maktoum or Dubai International: where to land

Al Maktoum International (DWC)

Al Maktoum International (ICAO OMDW, IATA DWC) sits at Dubai World Central, in the south of the emirate. Our data places it about 19 nautical miles from the city centre, lists its longest runway at 14,764 feet and confirms customs. Its business aviation facilities sit within the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub at Dubai South, which the Dubai Media Office describes as home to a dedicated VIP terminal area.

For most private arrivals, DWC is the default. It has far less airline traffic than DXB, so arrival slots and aircraft parking are easier to secure, and the runway comfortably handles every category from a super midsize jet to a VIP airliner. The trade-off is distance: the drive to Downtown Dubai or the Palm is longer than from DXB, though usually quicker than the time you would spend waiting for a slot at the busier airport.

Dubai International (DXB)

Dubai International (ICAO OMDB, IATA DXB) is about 6 nautical miles from the centre in our data, and it is one of the busiest international airports in the world, according to Wikipedia. It does handle private flights, and its location is hard to beat for meetings in Deira, the creek or the older business districts.

The catch is capacity. Airline traffic dominates DXB, and slots for private arrivals can be harder to secure at popular times. We ask the operator to check both airports and recommend DXB when the time saving on the ground is worth it and a slot is available.

Abu Dhabi as a fallback

Our data also lists Zayed International in Abu Dhabi about 57 nautical miles away. It is not a Dubai airport, but it can be useful when both Dubai airports are congested, for example during a major event, or when your trip includes Abu Dhabi as well.

Flight times: how far is Dubai

Dubai is a long-haul destination from almost everywhere outside the Gulf, so the aircraft category matters far more than on a European hop. The table above lists every corridor we quote into Dubai. Here is a summary from our route screening for some of the most requested origins. These are screening estimates from our model, not operator figures:

Two patterns stand out. From western Europe, a super midsize jet is the smallest category that flies nonstop in our screening; lighter jets need a fuel stop, which usually wipes out any saving. From New York, only an ultra-long-range jet flies nonstop.

Short Gulf sectors, such as from Riyadh, Doha or Jeddah, are a different story: they are an hour or two of flying, and much smaller jets do the job.

Choosing the aircraft for a flight to Dubai

The aircraft guide explains each category in detail. For a private jet to Dubai, the choice usually comes down to three questions.

How far are you coming from? Range sets the floor. From Europe that floor is a super midsize jet in our screening. From North America or East Asia it is an ultra-long-range jet.

How many people, and for how long? A super midsize cabin suits a small group on a six-to-seven-hour flight. A heavy or ultra-long-range jet adds a separate rest area, more galley space and room to sleep properly, which is worth a great deal on an overnight sector.

What about the heat? Summer temperatures in Dubai regularly pass 40 °C. High temperatures reduce aircraft performance, which can affect how much fuel and payload an aircraft can carry on departure. For an arrival this is rarely a problem, but for the return flight in July or August the operator may plan a different weight or routing. We raise this early.

When to fly: seasons, events and Ramadan

The seasonal chart above follows airport traffic. Dubai Airports reports that the fourth quarter of 2025 was Dubai International's busiest quarter on record, with December its busiest month ever, so the weeks around New Year are the tightest for slots and parking. Summer is hot, and much of that season's traffic is residents flying out rather than visitors flying in.

Winter high season

The cool, dry winter is when a private jet to Dubai is most requested. Hotels fill, the event calendar is busy, and many aircraft are already committed around the holidays. If you are travelling for New Year, book as early as you can; both parking and good departure times go quickly.

The Dubai Airshow

The Dubai Airshow is held at Dubai World Central, next to Al Maktoum International, according to the organiser's venue page. It takes place in November, usually in odd-numbered years. During show week, business aviation traffic at DWC rises sharply and parking is in demand. We do not publish dates; check the official website for the year you are travelling.

Ramadan

Ramadan moves earlier by about ten or eleven days each year, so it can fall in any season. During the holy month, business hours shorten and daytime public eating and drinking is discouraged. Flights run normally, but it is worth planning meetings and ground arrangements around it. Eid holidays at the end of Ramadan bring a surge in travel from the region.

Summer

Summer tends to be busier for departures than for arrivals. If your plans are flexible, it can be a good time to find aircraft and even empty legs heading into Dubai to collect residents returning home.

Entering the UAE on a private flight

The UAE is outside the EU and the Schengen Area, so every international arrival involves immigration and customs. On a private flight these are handled at the private terminal, typically in minutes rather than the long queues of a main airline hall.

• Visas. Many nationalities can enter the UAE visa-free or receive a visa on arrival, while others must apply in advance. Rules vary by passport and purpose of visit, so check the UAE government's visa guidance for every passenger before you fly.
• Passport validity. Carry passports with plenty of remaining validity. The operator will ask for passport details in advance for the passenger manifest.
• Medicines. The UAE controls some medicines that are freely available elsewhere. Carry prescriptions for any medication you bring, and check the official guidance before travelling with anything controlled.
• Pets. Bringing a pet into the UAE needs an import permit and veterinary paperwork. Tell us early so the operator and handler can prepare.

The working week in the UAE runs Monday to Friday, with the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, so government services and business meetings follow a familiar pattern for European and American visitors.

What affects the cost

The table above shows estimate ranges for each corridor; the private jet cost guide explains how they are built. They are estimates, not quotes. For a flight to Dubai, the main factors are:

• Aircraft category. From Europe the super midsize floor applies; stepping up to a heavy or ultra-long-range jet adds cost as well as comfort.
• Positioning and the return. Many aircraft are based in Europe or the Gulf. A one-way flight usually pays for the aircraft to fly back empty, which is why a return often costs well under twice the one-way estimate.
• Crew rest. Long sectors can need an augmented crew or a rest stop, depending on the aircraft and the operator's rules.
• Airport and parking. Landing, handling and parking at DWC or DXB depend on the aircraft size and length of stay.
• Season. New Year week and Airshow week tighten supply.

Empty legs into Dubai

Dubai's seasons create one-way traffic: aircraft fly residents to Europe in early summer and return empty, and the reverse happens as the winter season begins. An empty leg is a positioning flight an operator offers for sale, usually for less than a full charter.
